Firefox came out with a phone OS and new graphic recently for entry level
smart phones.

http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/os/

--------------
So, anyone have thoughts on this?

I don't like smartphones but I like the project. Hopefully they reach
their funding target.

Besides Android, what are the existing, most-similar options?

we rotate the meeting locations, we (almost always) update the website
before the meetings, but then they fall off after the meeting date

there is also an email or two that goes out here on the mailing list

I look forward to such conversations Jim, that sounds interesting.
And thank you Barry for the information, I'll look forward for the notices.

Clonezilla and LiveCD/DVDs FTW! And when you're ready to really find some
fun problems, the Kali/Backtrack Live DVD can come in handy. ;)

Welcome to the group! As PC tech I'm sure you'll have lots of opportunities

Oh yeah, Clonezilla saved my Windows 7 drive once, I now use it for
back-ups. As for Kali and Backtrack, I'm not a pen tester, but they
are... Interesting distros indeed. :XD

So, anyone have thoughts on this?

I don't like smartphones but I like the project. Hopefully they reach
their funding target.

Besides Android, what are the existing, most-similar options?

I am concerned that if they don't get funded, we don't get re-funded.

My thoughts are that the concept is inspiring, the vision is grand, but
as Scott has pointed out, it all comes down to funding. A project of
that size, even to be taken up by a major backer such Canonical is, in
my opinion, massive. Cynical as I may sound, I hope it comes to be. I
would truly get behind such an project.

Speaking of which, has any one signed up for the developer beta of the
Ubuntu Phone?

Although the wording on Indiegogo's web site is a little confusing,
I'm pretty sure that Canonical will either get $32M or nothing. If
Canonical gets nothing, you get your money back within 5 days of the
end of the campaign. You may be out the processing fees that PayPal
or your CC company charges though.

http://support.indiegogo.com/entries/21081743-Refunds

I've never used Indiegogo (or Kickstarter) myself, but I've never
heard any complaints about Indiegogo (or Kickstarter) not returning
money if they are supposed to (according to their rules).
