[Cialug] Booting an iso image with grub2

Is there a trick to booting an iso image with grub2? I'm not talking about
a thumb drive , .. ratner a copy on the hard disk?

Seens like even with the config properly in /etc/grub.d, it gets 'lost' in
the boot process - I assume because the drive has not mounted yet and/or
there is no BIOS boot in place?

Every note I can find on the 'Net talks about external iso images.
