Perhaps the more general question would be:

WHAT Open Source email/calendar/contact 'server' is the simplest to 
use with an Android device?

For example, Zimbra licenses ActiveSync, so that version is not OS, 
.. are there any other tools for a non-MS solution that does not use Google?
