[Cialug] Job posting pet peeves (WAS: Job Opening - Red Hat)

I recently applied for a job(online) that had just a number, they had a requirement of 2 to 5 yrs of previous experience. I have 6+, plus countless OSHA training classes that I'd had. so I figured what the heck I'd try it. A week or so later I got the standard reject letter in the mail. It turned out it was for a company that I'd previously worked for.

Being a former employer didn't that bother me that much(they sucked), but it's the part about not having the "right" kind of experience that really pisses me off. The field of work I ended up in has NO formal way or specific way of being trained for. It's something you can't find at DMACC or anywhere else for that matter.

I guess it doesn't matter what your profession is, when it comes to job hunting it's a PITA!

Please bring these up at tomorrow's meeting.  I have my own answers to these peeves, but I think they would be best held until we have a more open and real-time discussion.

Peeves...

1.) Not posting the company it's for.  I get the headhunters don't want you going direct, but I want to know who I'm applying for.  I want to research the company.

2.) Jobs with 80-90k salaries that I REALLY wish I could say I'm qualified for and could do after probably negligible training, but I'm not qualified for so sux4me!

Seriously...they don't teach Linux SysAdmin in college...where do you acquire that?!  I'd love to leave the windows workplace behind.  Admittedly, Win7 is decent (don't flame me!) but I've yet to find a company that switches over quickly.
