[Cialug] OT: Best phone for the geek

I have owned a Treo 600, 650 and now a 680. The Treo 600 was buggy
and crashed a lot. Also FYI, there is a class action against the 600
due to reliability.

The 650 was rock solid and it just wore out. I debated with going with
a 700p or a 680. Unfortunately I purchased a 680. I would not
recommend the 680 at all mainly due to battery life. It is lighter
since it has a smaller battery. It has no where near the battery life
as the 650.

When my time runs out on the 680, it will be a 700p or Blackberry...

I have several friends that have the mogul and love it. Having played
with them a little myself, if I needed to get a new phone today and
couldn't wait for Android it would no doubt be the Mogul.

Flee from Palm OS. It's terrible. (I used to be a die hard palm
supporter, but their products have turned to garbage in the last few
years). I'm presently stuck another year with a treo 680. I can fight
with it enough to cover my needs, but it was one of the biggest mistakes
I ever made in picking out a cell phone. I leaned hard toward the 680
because I remembered Palm OS being very stable. I'm currently rebooting
the POS at least once every 3 days.

Given that Sprint was one of the first networks to join with google and
the open handset alliance I'm guessing that Android will probably
release for CDMA before GSM if not at the same time.

Yeah, I know I'm evil for wanting WM on here, but I've been using a
windows PDA for years. It works with my work PC and my primary home pc
which, yes...is still on windows. I'm still working on a complete
crossover to linux (personally...can't do it at work :( ) Palm's ok,
but I still like WM better. I'd wait for android, but I haven't seen
any indication of when it's coming and I'm afraid it - like most things
seem to - will come out for GSM far before CDMA. Also I know the WM
devices can be used as a wireless modem with an add-on program w/o doing
the phone-as-modem plan.

My current cell plan is about up and my wife, by some miracle is telling
me I *SHOULD* get a PDA phone (she never wants me to spend money on
tech). I have never liked GSM when I've tried it so unless someone
wants to convince me ATT & Tmobile are off my list. What provider/phone
does everyone suggest? I'm looking at the HTC Mogul from Sprint right
now on the SERO program (1250 min and unlimited txt/data for $49.99/mo).
I'd prefer Windows Mobile, since that's what I have now on my regular
PDA.
