Hello All,

I moved to Des Moines a couple of months ago and I just discovered
your LUG. I intend to come round to the meeting on Wednesday and meet
everybody, but I figured I should introduce myself here.

I'm originally from Peoria, IL, but I moved here in October because my
girlfriend got a good job here, and I was curious to try living
somewhere else. I am a consulting programmer and electrical engineer,
so generally that means I design embedded systems, since they lay
neatly at the intersection of those disciplines. I design electronics
hardware and I write a lot of C and assembly code for microcontrollers
(PICs and ARMs). I usually also write GUIs for my designs, and
whenever I can convince a client, I do so in Python with the
cross-platform wxPython GUI toolkit.

I've been into the whole GNU/Linux thing for something like 6-7 years,
and in general free software concerns probably occupy more of my
waking brain cycles than I should admit. Never been to a LUG meeting
of any kind, though, so I'm looking forward to seeing what it's like.
In most scenarios, I'm used to being the one free software guy in a
crowd of MS drones.

Also, I must say that the picture on the front page with people
holding dark beers looks encouraging.
