[Cialug] Meaning of ethernet connectivity light

A couple months ago, I had the lan port go bad on my motherboard. I
looked at the hub, and it had a link light for my port. Yet I
couldn't ping anything. I put in my old network card, and it worked
fine. Which leads me to believe a link light means diddly.
