There is two pairs of wire, one is transmit and one is receive. You can 
have link on one side but not the other if transmit is working but receive 
is not, or vice versa. Those are a pain to troubleshoot if you don't think 
to look at the lights immediately, or you have link at the desktop and 
don't think to look at the switch side.
