[DM-MUG] scanning slides

After taking a quick peek @ my 8400F, My first question, is, have you
removed the little "pad" that's in the lid that covers the light
source for slides/negs?

When I have the insert removed from mine, and open up Photoshop
Elements, and choose connect to camera or scanner, it brings up the
source choices, and I select the scanner, that brings up what I refer
to as the "Driver" software (looks like "ScanGear CS" in my case) and
the top menu is select source. The bottom 2 choices there are
Negative Film (Color) and Positive Film (Color) - This is all in
"Simple" mode.

My model is a bit less than yours, but I'm guessing the basics are
the same.
