this isn't the answer you're looking for, but i couldn't recommend
keynote more strongly.
(well, actually, i could. they need to work on a hang-up that
sometimes gets in the way
of presentations that incorporate imovies in slides from being
exported successfully to QuickTime.)
i'm a complete dufus with software - practically have to be shown how
to do everything,
but i had decent presentations running almost immediately with keynote.
to get more control over the soundtrack, i export them to qt, then
import to imovie.
i'm told that the same thing can be accomplished by importing the
qt's to garage band.
and keynote keeps surprising me as i get more hours into using it.
always finding new ways to do some pretty impressive stuff.
good luck with your question, but for me, the price of iwork has been
well worth it,
even though i don't use the word processor at all.
