[Cialug] Video Conferencing

I host a Jitsi server in a docker container and host a video meeting
weekly for about 5-6 attendees, 2 from US remaining from Turkey. Some
attendees join by smart phones, whereas others join by laptops (Win, Mac
or Linux). I admit that we mostly don't share screen, webcast or record
our meetings, and the whole thing is not as presentable as zoom in my
opinion. We did encounter a few glitches here and there but it is
working well for the most part. I have a gigabit connection for internet
and I have the physical computer that hosts the server at home,
operating on Arch linux, with 16 GB RAM and i7 processor. Safari has a
problem in allowing camera or audio use in my experience but Firefox did
not create a consistent problem for me. I think it won't be suitable to
be used as a full suite, including streaming, recording, etc. but I
think it is OK to use with the minimal install and attendees that
wouldn't panic in the first occasion of a mishap. Tinkering may be
needed, yes, but perhaps I have been lucky, I truly didn't spend
unreasonable amount of time to set it up and keep it alive.
