I'm not a fan of the C1000a (Actiontec), I liked the C1000z (Zyxel) better.

Generally if you're putting a modem into bridging mode, it doesn't matter
too much which modem you're using.

BUT - I don't like bridging mode. If it's my modem, I'd rather be able to
log into it and see what my modem stats are, if you're getting line errors
etc. If you're in bridging mode, you get nothing, and have to rely on your
ISP for that info. if your ISP is CL, what info you get depends largely on
how much the tech you're talking to ain't care.

And you can use the firewall options on the modem as another layer of
protection if you want to.
