[Cialug] good linux distro for web dev?

I've been using Mint and Cinnamon for over 3 years now, wouldn't trade it
for any others for development now. Hate Ubuntu's weird interface, and
even though I LOVE Arch Linux, it isn't stable enough to suit me unless I
devote way to many man hours to it. Mint combines the best of Ubuntu, and
Cinnamon. Going forward, I think that Mint will have an easier upgrade
path that the previous versions had.

At home I run Mint on a T400 Lenovo ... not a speedy machine by any means,
but with the SSD in the laptop, it's snappy enough for anything I need.

At work, I run it on a I7 laptop as a virtual machine in VmWare
Workstation, on Windows 7. (Similar to what your wanting to do)

The only time I see the windows systems, is when I have to boot up... other
than that, I try hard to believe it doesn't exist on my work laptop ;)
With my laptop dock I have Mint running on three screens, with one turned
vertical for coding. I have my own VmWare Workstation License, which was
sort of expensive to start with, but has proven to be worth having. I also
use VmWare Workstation on my home laptop to manage my VmWare ESXI server...
so, it has more than one use.

I actually prefer to use my home laptop most of the time, as it is attached
to my home NAS, giving me pretty much unlimited storage, 9+ TB's free space
still, and the data is "safer" than being just on my laptop. I don't think
you'll go wrong with Mint, but you should really check out the Mint
desktop, having the capability to quickly switch to multiple other desktops
is pretty nice too, one of the main reasons I'm using Mint too, that and it
takes less resources than Gnome, or KDE.

Good luck, and hope Mint works out as good for you as it has for me.
