Dirty or unwholesome CD or CD drive? Scuffs on the disk?

Have any of you tried installing PC-BSD 9.0? I started the install, and hours later, it was still installing packages, I could see that it was making progress, and the CD was spinning. The machine is fairly fast, dual core P4 with 1gb RAM, installing from a local CD drive to a 7200 rpm SATA drive, used the default UFS, since it didn't have the recommended memory for ZFS.

Usually a full desktop Linux install takes maybe 10 or 15 minutes.
