As far as idiot proof and easy, I'd recommend an untangle server.

It uses openvpn and provides prebuilt windows .exe packages for your configuration.

But, I am wondering if you guys have any suggestions on the closest solution to providing an "idiot-proof" VPN through one's home network. My new job will require me to travel more than I have before, and so I'd like to use a VPN. I'm open to using a paid service if necessary. However, I'm not sure what VPN companies to trust. I know it is possible to set up a VPN with a Linux machine, but I'm a bit leery of messing up a setting and not having as secure a network as I need. So, I thought I would see what suggestions you all have.
