[Cialug] Android security

I thought I would ask here after seeing your comments about Android security since I am not 100% certain from what I can find on the net. Do any of you know if the HTC Hero is limited to 2.1 or below? I am currently on 1.5, but I have not yet explored how to do what you are suggesting here.
