Yes, but do I have to think about that?  It seems like if I take the
step of becoming a system administrator that I take on this
responsibility.  There are any number of better and more efficient
ways that this could be implemented.  They could more quickly
calculate how much space the files take and tell me right up front
that they won't fit in the Recycle Bin.  They could temporarily
increase the size of the Recycle Bin and do the operation, and then
give me the warning at the end.  They could delete the damn thing for
real, but provide some semi-painful way of getting it back if I really
need to (ZFS style snapshots maybe).  How they've chosen to implement
this is hand-holding rather than safety.

And thus, I run Linux when I can.
