[Cialug] KMail misinterpreting plain text

For the last couple months (i think since i upgraded Debian from 
"stable" to "testing" and thus KDE switched to 4) KMail has had an 
annoying bug where slashes in plain-text e-mail cause the text to be 
italicized, asterisks cause bold, and underscores cause underlining. I 
want plain-text to be rendered as it is written. I haven't been able to 
find a way to work around this bug. Any ideas?

Note: KMail is the only KDE app i use; my window manager is AfterStep. 
I've looked all throughout KMail's settings though and not found 
anything.
