Not to be a tergiversator, but it'd probably help if you spelled out 
where you want to be, how much you deserve, and what you'd like to have.

You might consider working as a volunteer sysadmin for a local NPO while 
keeping your current employment (paycheck) while you acquire the new 
skills and become experienced...
