[Cialug] Network response!

Over the past week or so I have tried a number of things to attempt to isolate why I have slow network reponse when browsing and slow response to pings while at home using my machine loaded with Debian 4 linux.

There were several suggestions given on this site of which I have tried most.

I have tried pointing my network DNS server to the OpenDNS server given on this mailing list. This seemed to work fine. I have connected my linux machine directly to the cable modem which did NOT resolve the slow response problem.

I brought the fact that when I pointed my DNS resolution to the OpenDNS server my slow response seemed to go away up with my internet service provider and late last week they came back with a response that this must be something with my machine since they had checked out their network and DNS server and did not find any issue. The also gave me another DNS server to point to which I tried and it,like OpenDNS,worked just fine.

The same machine works fine at my work location connected to our vendor only lan connection.

To me this all points to the DNS server that is provided when I obtain a DHCP IP address since pointing to another DNS server resolves the issue. My intenet provider however disagrees saying that since my Windows machine does not exhibit this issue it must be the linux machine.

Does anyone have any comments on all of this?
