[Cialug] Wiki Suggestion Request

I used FCK with MediaWiki years ago. It works, but by doing that you
lose the ability to use wiki syntax. FCK will store the data in the DB
as pure HTML. There have been attempts to re-convert this back into
wiki code... but they've had sub-optimal results.

If your user base is 100% GUI *and* has the extra processing power that
loading the FCK editor doesn't cause delays, go for it. Otherwise, look
for another option.

One theoretical consideration is to see whether Firefox has any plugins
for Mediawiki editing. If that works, it would be better because it's
pre-loaded and you don't get the time hit. Remember that any barrier to
the process will drastically reduce the number of people participating.

I'm looking around for a decent business Wiki with WYSIWYG editing
capabilities. I've heard people on this list recommend MediaWiki, but I
don't see any mature WYSIWYG options, and I hope I'm missing something
obvious. The one standout option I see is the FCKeditor extension for
MediaWiki. Does anyone have experience with that? Does it work well?

Are there any other options? Or should I wait a while until wikis have
better editor support?

Also, apparently there's a stylesheet to transform OOo document files
into
MediaWiki markup. Does anyone have any experience with that? If so, does
it
work well?

Thanks,

Chris
