[Cialug] What is a good distro for an older laptop

Even on older hardware, you can use the standard distros. For the
laptop mentioned, I'd use a base of OpenSUSE and install with base X.
Then, I'd add XFCE and use that as my environment.

You can do the exact same thing with Fedora, Centos, Debian, etc.

You can also use Damn Small Linux if you hit hard drive limitations
installing a mainstream distro. This is unlikely to be significant on a
P3 machine.

I have an older laptop with 128M RAM and a P3/300mhz CPU. Which
distribution would be good for a simple user desktop? Mainly
interested
in web browsing and text editing.

Thanks,

johnl
