[Cialug] Slightly OT- Windows Mobile grabbing random IPs..

Ok.. I haven't gone to do packet sniffing yet, but .9 is the DHCP server - .2 isn't (it's SQL and file sharing on Win2k). .2 is reserved in DHCP with a phony MAC for the win2k box. Same with .9 for the DHCP server, etc. When I look at the logs for the DHCP server, I see it handing out the correct address every time to the PDA. The only other odd thing is that this happens at random with the PDAs.

It's slightly OT, but here goes... We have a set of 3 Windows Mobile
PDAs (iPaqs - don't know which model) that will send a DHCP request,
get a response, and then decide on an IP of their choosing randomly.
The DHCP server runs on .9, the IP they commonly choose (another
server) is on .2 and the PDAs are "statically assigned" via DHCP to
.138, .139, and .221. The issue isn't just with the .221 PDA, but with
all 3 - anyone else see this before? The DHCP server is just a Debian
box and nothing special.

I think I'm missing something. They are grabbing IPs from the wrong
DHCP server or they are grabbing random IPs from the reserved pool?

If they are getting IPs from the wrong DHCP server, then they are just
going with which ever server responded first to their DHCP DISCOVER
packet. If they are grabbing a random IP from their reserved pool,
then I don't understand what the problem is. That sounds like what
they are suppose to do.
