I ran dhclient, and now it will ping successfully, but very slowly.
After a few lines (3 to 9) it will just give up, without giving the
command prompt back. Is there a way to end the process without going
into a different console to kill the process manually?

The thing is, if it were an issue with the Internet connection, the
router, or the modem, then I would expect it to affect both machines
equally. Hm.
