I think that's the same chip that's in my Dell D620, here's what the 
invoice said:

NC293	CARD (CIRCUIT), NETWORK, MINICARD, 3945ULD

It works just fine under Mandriva 2007 (running the PowerPack edition, 
but I don't think that driver is exclusive to PowerPack).

I can look when I get home and see what module it's using.

Did you check to see that the WiFi radio is turned on? You may have to 
change a setting in the BIOS, or some laptops (like the D620) have a 
switch on the side as well.
