Look at the "learn xajax in 10 minutes" tutorial. Once you get the 
concept, you'll be able to implement it in lots of situations.

The thing I like about it is you do most all of it in PHP - the only 
javascript you need for simple stuff is usually the trigger function, 
like an onchange in one of your input fields.
