Even after all of that, you're only covering your end of the 
connection... as DW pointed out, the cable company may not have 
sufficient backup power to keep the line up in case of a major power 
outage anyway.

I was all for putting in my own mini power plant, but I don't have $60k 
sitting around, and I don't think my condo would let me put the wind 
turbine & solar array on the roof.
