interesting, I've never used the proxy stuff, I always just use the 
tunnels.  I ssh to middleman, with a tunnel from middleman to private1, 
then ssh/rdp/whatever to localhost.  it seems to work fine on windows, 
I'd guess it saves the server fingerprint based on the putty 
session-save name.  I've had some problems on linux/mac since it stores 
the fingerprint based on hostname.  the second time, it will complain 
that "the signature for localhost has changed" - not a biggie
