NetBSD's pkgsrc is worth looking into.  Even if it may have a few snags
on some (mostly larger) packages on non-NetBSD OSes, Solaris is an
OS they support.  I've even managed to get it to build GIMP on OS X/i686
without too much trouble.  But, if you want your packages pre-built, it
may not be the best choice.
