I believe that short of the 64bit class we are still in the 686 range. Not
sure what a 786 is but it also exists. A couple links are below. I believe
that PPro through current P4, Athlon CPUs are I686/786 (see below). There is
certainly some confusion about the current generation. But they are 686/x86
compatible.

Which processors fall within the classification of i686-class?

Does the PIII count?  Xeon?  Which AMD chips would count?  Athlon?

I'm sorry, I thought I had this straight, the more I read on this issue the
more confused I become.

Also, thanks to Dave for the great intro to CVS.  It really cleared up some
mysteries for me.
