[Cialug] alsa snd-atiixp with bt878

Anytime anybody asks about disk drive I'm always happy to point out Samsung.
Many of the Spinpoint models are available with an 8 MB buffer, full ATA-133
speeds, and capacities up to 160 GB. They are also very quiet. They also
have SATA drives available with similar properties. I haven't had a bad one
yet (I've bought at least 6) and I've owned a 120 MB unit for 2 years now.

I've had good luck (so far) with the Western Digital Special edition drives
(8 MB buffer) though they are "Ultra" ATA-100. For a while they seemed
about the fastest thing going.

I'm not afraid of Seagate but they seem to be very conservative and not
quite the value the Samsung and WD represent (maybe longevity is the
ultimate goal?). They may be perfect your machine though since they extol
their ruggedness in their literature. Also quiet.

Try a Samsung.

I'm still having issues with my PVR-250 card. I can get everything to
load, but I'm guessing there's a problem with the Tuner module or
something... it will start the MythTV backend & frontend, and even let
me change channels, but only shows snow. I haven't messed with it too
much lately, I got frustrated with it and put it on the back burner.

My current project is getting my WinXP PC restored. I've now lost my 2nd
IBM / Hitachi Deskstar, the last one died 11 1/2 months ago, and the
replacement they sent me is now out of warranty. I do move that PC
around a lot - it's a Shuttle XPC I take to LAN parties. Last year it
died right after I brought it home from an event. This time it started
acting wonky about a week after an event. I try to be careful not to
drop it or anything... so I'm kind of concerned about why this keeps
happening.

Any suggestions for a good robust IDE drive? I used to hate Maxtors for
this same reason (I had 3 fail in about a month span), and had great
luck with IBM Deskstars. Now that I've been bitten twice on these, I'm
tempted to try something else.
