I highly doubt it. Many scanners, even cheap ones, these days can scan high
enough resolution to pick up the grain in the paper. The exception may be if
you're scanning slides or negatives or if the multi-pass scan is able to get
better color results.
In my opinion, the multi-pass scans just mean more time removing dust in
photo shop.
