[DM-MUG] MacPro issues with internal PCI cards & enclosures

I have 2 eSATA cards in my MacPro [2007 vintage] and have been trying
to use bay enclosures with them [IcyDock, WiebeTech]. I had one card
and it wasn't working so just got another one and it doesn't work
either = I have changed the eSATA cables and have tried all 4 ports
[2 on each]. Running SN 10.6.7 with lots of Ram and space
I have downloaded another driver [Silicon Image is one of the card's
manufacturers - but both show up in Get Info as recognized and with
drivers installed] just in case and will be installing that = but
the problem also is when eSATA is used, using all 4 possible ports,
no enclosure with drive is recognized at all -- [the drives were
checked by a friend and are working and have data] - when I use the
USB connection with the enclosures and drives the disks are seen but
I get the pop up that they can't be read and do I want to initialize.
Which I don't.
Any suggestions as to what can be done = I'm stumped - using
different PCI cards, diff. enclosures, diff. cables [eSATA],
different drives [but pre-validated] - but either they are not seen
via eSATA or if by USB the drives are nto recognized.
