RE; "If animals play, this is because play is useful in the struggle for survival; because play practices and so perfects the skills needed in adult life".----Susanna Miller
I love that quote.
You're dealing with a kindergarten teacher here. We play to learn and learn through play... so I like that one, too! :-) And, thank you for the information. I guess my book database I kept on iDisk will be defunct on my iPhone now when I'm shopping...... Dang! I really liked that!!! I will hang in there learning. Another questions (remember, as a teacher I don't think any question is DUMB, but is the Dropbox you were talking about anything connected to the new iCloud?
Thanks again.
Jenny

In reality, when a person gets into your DropBox folder on the site, they are in a replica of your folder on the DropBox servers, not on your computer at all. When you add/remove files to the DropBox folder on your computer,it copies the file up into the cloud on the DropBox servers (or removes the files if deleted)

The only risk is to the copies of any files you have in that folder that reside on the DropBox servers. I hope this all makes sense and doesn't confuse the issue for you.

> As for those relatives with an affinity for looking into the harmless red lasers in their optical mice, I don't mean to offend, but those are the people who truly have no need for cloud services, won't understand them if shoved into them, and should be left clear away from them. On their computers. they are perfectly capable of using the URLs to files you share, however. Just don't expect reciprocation.

>> Yeah, I will do a write-up for this to share with the group. At the moment, I am totally geeing on the new Lion install, so you have to wait a bit. I'll try to get to it tonight. I'll also cover using Drop Box and one of the web services to send it.

I am thinking iCloud will work like Skydrive (which I just received on my school computer) which I also assume will work in much the same way as my iDisk through MobileMe except that it won't host my iWeb pages anymore. Am I even close on my understanding? Any improved understanding and clarification would really be appreciated.

> It does not appear that iCloud will work like this at all. Apple is clearly pushing three major services here - mail, addresses, and calendar info. They are also using it for backups, and for the new iTunes Match music service. They have not announced any service that would work like general remote storage that syncs like iDisk, but this kind of functionality might come in the near future.
