[DM-MUG] does anyone have a comment on DropBox?

Not really, isolated, no. The DropBox service will not look outside of that folder, if that's what you're asking, but beyond that the DropBox folder is like any other on your hard drive with permissions dictated by it's location and the operating system defaults.

So, you can get to the DropBox folder without issue on your computer like all directories, but you cannot get beyond that folder via DropBox itself. In reality, when a person gets into your DropBox folder on the site, they are in a replica of your folder on the DropBox servers, not on your computer at all. When you add/remove files to the DropBox folder on your computer,it copies the file up into the cloud on the DropBox servers (or removes the files if deleted)

It functions this way much the same as iDisk does (until it gets turned off this fall). there is no risk to the data on your computer by using DropBox. The only risk is to the copies of any files you have in that folder that reside on the DropBox servers. I hope this all makes sense and doesn't confuse the issue for you.

As for those relatives with an affinity for looking into the harmless red lasers in their optical mice, I don't mean to offend, but those are the people who truly have no need for cloud services, won't understand them if shoved into them, and should be left clear away from them. On their computers. they are perfectly capable of using the URLs to files you share, however. Just don't expect reciprocation.

Thanks,
