[DM-MUG] VPN at home?

It is only more secure if you are routing through the VPN connection. Any traffic outside of that connection will be the usual. There is no benefit to running the software when the VPN is at home unless you have a constant connection to the VPN server and its proxies.

Matt is absolutely correct that network traffic through a VPN connection will be slower than your home network connection. If you have a firewall at home, there is not much sense in using the VPN client. The only real benefit it provides is access to a network outside of your home as if you were a physical node on said network. This is great if you need to get to secure documents at work, or hit servers internal to your workplace, but not of much use at all otherwise.

Clear as mud? ;)

One vendor implies that it improves security the other says that it doesn't. A reason to not have it on is that the normal mail settings will not allow email to be downloaded.
