[DM-MUG] dmmug Blog

Blogs are really only useful as a way for a single person to broadcast
to a lot of users, then allows for often-ignored, generally short
responses from random commenters who are viewed as being much less
trustworthy sources of information. This makes it a great medium for
the distribution of helpful articles to the rest of the MUG, but doesn't
foster discussion or the back-and-forth exchange of help and ideas that
the mailing list offers. If you wanted to have a list-like web medium,
you would probably want to look into forum software of some sort. The
only reason I could see for using forum software over the mailing list
would be the ability to look up information from a previous conversation
that occurred just outside of your memory.

For example, if someone summarized what was learned about putting a webpage in Keynote, that might be a useful blog post. But the everyday conversations might not always be something you would want on a blog.

Stuart's comment brings to mind the recent discussion about the website and the purpose of the group. I suspect a blog might have been a better site for this than the list server. Maybe if we had it I could start a good discussion about the purpose of the website.
