If PHP is installed on the server then wordpress can be used for $0 more
than currently is required. Tumblr is a free service and wordpress.com (the
commercial product) is very cheap.

However, the difference between a blog and a mailing list is that everyone
already uses e-mail. It's part of our normal daily activities on the
computer. Not so for the dmmug website. It is not a daily routine for most
of us to go check it, find out if there's comments and participate.
Therefore it will probably not get nearly the attention as the mailing list.

Another possibility would be to create a Facebook fan page. It lets people
post comments, share links, photos, videos and all the stuff Facebook is
known for. I've noticed among the "20 somethings" and younger group, this is
a very popular way to keep in touch. However,  that crowd is not exactly the
typical demographic of Mac users. ;-)
