[DM-MUG] Upgrading a Mac

I'm doing an article for the GPSolo magazine for lawyers on Mac topics = and this month one suggestion was how to upgrade a Mac [instead of buying new].   I've done RAM of course, and changed harddrives [in MacPro but not laptop or iMac] - any other suggestions of upgrading ideas?  My rough limited knowledge is that changing out a logic board and processor is probably not something that is DIY -- remember the article is for lawyers not technical people.  Just some ideas to work with.
