[DM-MUG] iMac and firewire

Hi, 

I have a firewire drive (drive A) --800-- which I was using withe my Mac mini which has a 400 port. The mini ceased to recognize it and would also  not recognize a DVD drive (400) or another firewire external drive(B) which were all three recognized by the laptops. So the mini apparently had a bad firewire port.

I bought an iMac (Intel duo core -- wow) with an 800 port and at first it recognized drive A then it became flaky and the iMac would not recognize any of the firewire drives. Apple replaced the logic board but it still will not recognize either drive B or the optical drive using an 800 -- 400 cable. I have used two different adapter cable. Is there any reason the drives with 400 ports will not mount on the iMac? 

The iMac will also not recognize the drive A but neither will anything else at this point. Drive A has a USB port which worked but is not unusable.
