[DM-MUG] Folder icons

Hi, I've read from several tutorials how to update the folder icon, for
example this one here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2493

They're all pretty much the same but when I try to do this, instead of the
folder icon being what I'd like it instead becomes the "preview" icon with
.png written on it.

I'm trying to change the icon for my USB thumb drive so that it will stand
out. Can anyone help?
