[DM-MUG] displays

I recently purchased a new Mac Mini to take the place of two old machines (a G5 iMac and an old PC).  Everything is working fine, but the old display that I am using -- a Sony flat screen from 2001 -- all of a sudden looks really bleached out and faded compared to the iMac display that I used to have in the room.

Anyway, I was wondering if the picture quality on any new monitor would be roughly the same, or if there is reason (beyond aesthetics and the built-in web cam) to seriously consider getting an Apple display.

(By the way, I do know that using a 23-inch HDTV with HDMI connection doesn't seem like a good option, since the dots seemed very noticeable.  Apparently, monitors have a higher dot density or something.)

Any advice would be appreciated.
