Try the following solution from Apple's knowledge base

	http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10010620

In brief, trash the preference file located at

	[your hard drive] / Users / [yourshortusername] / Library /  
Preferences / com.apple.systempreferences.plist

... and reboot your Mac.
