[DM-MUG] Woe is me - the end of the road

I just experienced something that demonstrated to me that I've apparently
reached the end of the road as a Mac-bigot. I received an e-mail from my Mom
about a problem with her MacBook and I couldn't help her. She had installed
Snow Leopard and was afterward unable to run Office 2004 apps without
Rosetta. "What's Rosetta?" she asks. Sorry Mom, my Macs are too old - I know
nothing about Snow Leopard or Rosetta. Ok, so it didn't take long to find
the answer (Google led me to a good article on MacObserver).

So why is this a big deal? I was the ultimate Mac bigot! In college, I had
to drag my CompSci professor to another building where there was an SE/30 on
which I had installed Think C so he could review my assignments (the lab in
his building had only 8086 boxes). I eventually earned a living doing
various Mac things, most recently as a Carbon/C++ application developer. I
was one that had that religious zeal about my passion for the Mac. But then
CE Software became a non-profit organization (not intentionally). It doesn't
take long to figure out that decent paying Mac jobs in Des Moines are not
plentiful.

Now eight years later, I have two G4s, and rarely use either of them. I long
ago removed XCode to free up disk space. I spend my days in Visual Studio
writing ASP.Net web apps in C#. Unless I step in a large pile of money, I
don't see myself buying another Mac any time soon.

Woe is me!

** whine mode OFF **

Sorry, had to vent a bit. All better now.
