[DM-MUG] Locked Time Machine external disk

I have an external disk which I use TM	to back up to and it just put 
up a notice and I checked and it's now Locked.  Why I don't know, not 
sure what if anything I did = I checked Get Info and there is no 
Locked box to check or uncheck and the Privileges all say Custom and 
can't be modified

And now the main data volume for my iMac [it's partitoined] is also 
now locked and I can't gain access.  I tried as the user who normally 
does and as the Administrator, no dice.

What can I do to unlock it?
