Two beeps from the internal onboard/system speakers, yes. One for each incident.
The obscure motherboard failure message in 5 different languages takes over the monitor and is set on gray, 50% transparent background, or was on Mac OS 10.3. It may be different on more recent Mac OSes. It is frequent but not consistent, as it fails it becomes more frequent and consistent during the boot process. It reminded me of Mac's version of the Windows notorious blue screen of death. ha ha. Honestly, the particular G3 blue and white tower I had bought 2nd hand and used for an additional 6 years had more than served me well and was the first time I had ever experienced motherboard failure on any Mac.
Aside from learning to keep Mt. Dew and Milk away from laptops, or any liquids for that matter.
I'm signing off for the week, and probably next week to move and get settled in the new house. I apologize for the delayed response. It's been a chaotic month. Thank goodness it's almost over.

so does that mean there are two beeps possible = the drive and the
motherboard? When I go visit her in December I'm going to check over
the machine and either bring it home or something but it'd be helpful
to know what I'm looking for = right now it's safely in storage
