A flat scanner with slide capabilities will work okay but I have
found the focus to sometimes be an issue. The max resolution from a
slide is about 4000 dpi but a 2000 dpi scanner will be fine for up to
a 9x6 print. If your buying a slide scanner, get one with digital
ICE. This a great feature when scanning slides, it uses hardware
together with software to remove dust from your image.
I have been using a Nikon Coolscan 5000 slide and negative scanner
on a Mac for a few years now. It's an expensive option but it does a
great job. PS. Don't try to clean your slides before scanning them,
they can be scratched very easily.
If your interested, I have a home business that does this type of
service. Feel free to contact me for any slide related questions.
