[DM-MUG] Finder Issue

Alan, I have to assume by the "Shared" menu, you mean the shared section of
the sidebar, as there isn't actually a menu named "Shared".

What you are seeing are other computers on your network that are appearing
and disappearing. I would suspect that you are using a public wireless
connection, such as a coffee shop. Another possibility is that you have an
insecure wireless network in your home, and people are utilizing it without
your knowledge other than this. Finally, there is a slim possibility that
your cable modem is misconfigured so that you are not firewalled off from a
neighbor. This was actually common with early cable modems, and is quite
rare now.

Anyhow, if you are on a public network and seeing these devices, do not
fret. While they can see your computer, they cannot get in, provided you
don't have anything turned on in the Sharing System Preference or you've
created secure accounts and do not have guest access turned on.

In no way is this a virus, but rather the Mac OS telling you what else is on
the network.
