[DM-MUG] Pokey Snow Leopard

Does anyone else find Snow Leopard is very slow to respond unless you disable spaces and expose? I like the spaces since I have 8 different spaces based on function, but they seem to significantly slow down response of everything. 

Only 9 apps open, and none of them are demanding in anyway. Internet (no streaming videos), preview, text edit, iCal, Acrobat. Only 4 of the 8 spaces are active. Most of the time only 2-3 are active simultaneously. 

I did all my software updates a week ago. And I have 47 GB of free hdd space. Just thought I'd see if anyone else reported any problems with performance with Snow Leopard. And Aperture 1.5 and 2.1.x keeps telling me the versions "aren't compatible with this version of Mac OS." and then it would even launch. I checked the Apple site and the 2.1.x ought to be compatible with Snow Leopard. Any ideas? Should I nose around the 

/Library/Application Support/  

folders?
