[DM-MUG] Mac Internet Plugin problem

Last night I was trying to watch a program on the internet. It was a Fox.com program and it kept locking up my AOL internet connection.  In fact, I almost had to reboot the computer at one time because I couldn't get out of the full video lock-up.  I finally managed to decrease the video by lauching the DVD player and get out of it.  After this happened three times, I decided to give up on AOL and try Safari.  When I went to the site, Fox needed to upgrade my video player and directed me to their upgrade site.  Click on "Load" and it would download and update the Safari internet plugin.  Sounds simple.  The download takes about 2 minutes but then nothing happens.  I tried this several times and then decided to try another .dmg link.  Nothing happens.  I try this several times.  Ok, I decided to give Firefox a try.  Exact same results.  So, I figure, maybe I'm not running as an administrator and it won't work.  I login as the admin and yes, when I go to the Fox update it takes me through the whole process and I can watch the video.  But, as many of you know, you don't usually stay on the internet as an admin.  Not too safe.  So I go back to my regular, non-admin login and again, neither Safari or Firefox will update.  I go and change my login giving me admin status.  Same results.

So, right now, I'm left without being able to upgrade Safari or Firefox to the proper video player plugin while in my normal login even though the admin has already updated.  I looked around for the plugin and thought I found it within the admin library folder.  I copied this over to the user folder via a shared folder and put it in the library fold for the use.  Still does not work.

I'm running an Intel core 2 dual  iMac with 4GB Ram and Tiger 10.4.11 and all software update current.

Any ideas of how to resolve this issue.
